Fishing Closure at Terrigal Haven
A Section 8 fishing closure under the Fisheries Management Act 1994 has been implemented at Terrigal Haven on the NSW Central Coast to help protect Critically Endangered Greynurse Sharks. The closure was notified on 26 August 2026 and will remain in force for five years.
The closure prohibits the taking of fish using fishing lines fitted with a wire trace or chain trace, or lines consisting of wire or chain. The restriction applies to all recreational and commercial fishers within the closure area.
The closure has been introduced to reduce the risk of capture, injury and disturbance to Greynurse Sharks, which are regularly observed within Terrigal Haven. Other lawful fishing methods may continue within the area.
Closure area
The closure applies to waters extending from the shoreline at Terrigal Rock Pool (adjacent to the Terrigal Boardwalk), encompassing all waters of Terrigal Haven to Terrigal Point (north north east of the Terrigal Boat Ramp), including all waters within a 200 metre radius of the coordinate 33°26.787'S, 151°26.911'E.
Penalties apply
On-the-spot fines of $500 to $1,500 apply for fishing in the closure area using a fishing line fitted with a wire or chain trace, or a line consisting of wire or chain. Maximum court-imposed penalties of $22,000 and/or six months imprisonment apply for an individual's first offence.
